The sheer volume of collaborative footwear that has emerged is hard to keep track of. Revamped Birkenstocks at Rick Owens and knee-high Converse at Marine Serre are only two of the eye-grabbing shoes reworked for fashion runways. Footwear is being redesigned by the likes of Matthew Adams Dolan, John Elliott, UNDERCOVER, COMME des GARÇONS and Off White™.
COMME des GARÇONS is no stranger to unusual running shoes, having already launched the platform Cortez and sparkly Night Track earlier this year. For Spring/Summer 2019, the long-running Japanese label introduced a pair of monochrome Nike Shox, elevated with branded gold chains. A stramlined body, a CdG logo on the tongue and 3D seams differentiate the throwback runner from its 18-year-old predecessor.
A variety of collaborative footwear have hit the runways. The classic Nike basketball shoe is revamped with twisting tongues, dangling tags and visible stitching. A quartet of distinctive hues — “Blackened Blue,” “Black,” “Guava Ice” and “Natural Olive”.
Nike and Undercover are even doing a collaboration. The classic Nike silhouette now sports a green/red makeover, accented by a 3D “fin” on the rear and UNDERCOVER-branded speckle midsole.
During New York Fashion Week favorite Matthew Adams Dolan tapped Reebok for Sole Fury sneakers that contrasted neatly with his clothing.
Unsurprisingly, Virgil Abloh who designs athletic/streetwear and Nike joined forces once again for a graphic-heavy take on a cutting-edge running shoe. This time, the Off-White™ designer debuted the React Vapor Street Flyknit shoe. Living up to the collection’s theme, the new sneaker utilizes spikes on its sole to make for a grippy ride, with unmistakable yellow accents adding further contrasting details to the translucent upper.
Last but not least we had the classy collaboration between Supreme NYC and COMME des GARÇONS and Nike which elevates Nike's already hyped Air Force 1's to a new level.
